Toad &Toadette
Toad and Toadette
My sister had an idea of how to make the costumes but she asked me to help a little. It was such a fun project! We made the mushroom hats using sombreros. We covered the top of the sombreros with felt filled with grocery bags.

I was relived that we found a pink dress at a store so I didn't have to sew a whole dress. However the dress was too short so I added 6 inches of white fabric to the bottom.

Toad's vest The vest was easy enough to make because we cut a shirt down the middle, chopped off the sleeves and added some gold ribbon.

Coffee Cozies
I had a productive sewing week. I got an order for 25 coffee cozies. It was such a nice challenge! This order came at the right time because lately I've felt like I am slipping into the Bell Jar. Sewing these coffee cozies reminded me how much I enjoy sewing.

Christmas Apron Simplicity 3949
I finished that sewing project I started in November just in time for Christmas. Since I was making a gift I couldn't share too many details. It's a little bigger than I expected. I used the medium size but I wished I'd made a small. My sister really liked it and that was the BEST part of Christmas. I used Simplicity 3949 pattern. I love the Amy Butler fabric.
I had a hard time picking the fabric. I narrowed it down to these 2. I really liked the retro feel of the fabric on the left. However I picked the one on the right because it has purple and green in it and that was my sister's wedding colors.

Fall Sewing
Happy to report...I am currently sewing something. I am fueled by Halloween candy. It is a new pattern and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it turns out good. As soon as I finish I will post pictures.

Morena's Corner: Puffy Flower Hair Pin
I've seen these flowers before and always thought they were cute. I found a tutorial (the link is below). I had no idea how easy theses are to make! It's a great project because you can use your fabric scraps. It took me about 45 minutes to do this. However now that I know how to make them it will be faster.
The blog I got the tutorial from made the flowers into a headband. I think I am going to try that next. Theses flowers are so cool because you can experiment with different fabric textures. Depending on the style of button and fabric you can make your pin look vintage or modern.
Morena's Corner: Puffy Flower Hair Pin: This project is so easy and can be done in less than thirty minutes.

Serious Summer Sewing Slump
I'm in a serious summer sewing slump. I haven't had the itch to sew this summer. I checked out a few sewing books from the library to get some inspiration. I got the book Sewing with Oilcloth By: Kelly McCants. I've never sewn with oilcloth so this book intrigued me. This book has a pattern for snack bags. Making a reusable snack bag would be really useful if only I can find boyish print oilcloth. I also like the book Sewing in a Straight Line By: Brett Bara. It has lots of hip girly patterns. I think the reason I'm so relaxed about sewing is that come September both boys will be in school full time and I'll be left to my lonesome. I think it would be interesting to take a higher level sewing class at city college. However for right now I will continue to enjoy the lazy days of summer.

50 Shades of Grey
Scandalous
![]() |
Found this fabric at Joann's
So this week Little D is on vacation. He is visiting his Grandparents. This gives me A LOT of free time during the day! I don't know what to do with myself. I am hoping to get some sewing done and read.
I picked up Fifty Shades of Grey. This book has A LOT of buzz around it. It's suppose to be scandalous. I just hope it's not a waste of time. I haven't found a book to hold my interest in a few months EEK. I've mostly been reading books on parenting and cooking. Blah that's why I need a little scandal in my life.

Superhero Party
I sewed the streamers together to give them a ruffled look. I got the idea from this blog www.dana-made-it.com/ It is so easy!
My nephew is ready to get the bad guys.
I made the boys masks out of felt and ribbon. I cut up t-shirts to make their super capes.

Boy Buttercup Bag
I used the buttercup bag pattern. I didn't bother with the interface becasue it is just a kid's bag to carry around his action figures. It just takes 2 fat quaters to make this "adventure bag" as we are calling it.
It wasn't easy to get this boy to hold still long enough to take this picture! I think these would make fun Easter baskets.

coffee cozy revisited
This is one of the 1st coffee cozies I ever made AHH. A friend sent me this picture. I am so happy she is still using it!!!
I should be working on my birdie sling but I am taking a little break because I've hit a rough patch. I am a little confused about making the handle. I am so close to being done. I just don't want to mess it up! I needed to take a breather before I reread the directions.

Buttercup bag
Sometimes I will find a pattern in a library book that I want. Since you can't cut those pages out I will trace the pattern. The paper at Ikea is just thin enough to make tracing easy yet durable.
This is the buttercup bag I finished tonight. It is pretty small. It holds my cellphone and lipstick & that's about it. I got this pattern free from made by Rae (madebyrae.blogspot.com)
It's funny I just finished this bag and I am itching to make another bag already!!
