Kingdom Rock VBS Snacks

Day 1 God's Love Helps us Stay Strong.
 When I volunteered to help our church with Vacation Bible School snacks I figured a few carrots in Ranch Dressing and Goldfish. I was mistaken! Our snack committee, one other Mom and me made snacks for 99 kids. For each day we came up with snacks to go along with the day's lesson. The VBS kit came with suggestions for snacks however we came up with a few of our own ideas.
Day 1 using cookie cutters we sliced up watermelon into hearts.
Day 2 Family & Friends Help us Stand Strong
 We made standing towers. We used washi tape to make the little flags.
Day 4 Crown of Jesus with Jewels
 Day 4 we made quesadillas in the shape of a crown. We had colorful grapes on the side so the kids could use as jewels. Quesadillas are are a great snack. All the kids wanted seconds.
Tomorrow is our final day and we made frozen chocolate covered bananas.

Comic Con 2013

Flying minion
 After checking out the Children's Museum we walked around Comic Con. Comic Con is a huge event in San Diego. We couldn't get tickets to the actual convention. However it was fun walking around downtown and checking out all the costumes. D wore his new Robin costume he got for his birthday. My boys LOVE super heroes. Seeing life size Legos and the Justice League walking around the streets of San Diego is cool but I could do without the Zombies!!! I hate zombies!
 Headless Horseman
 Smurfland
 We totally geeked out on the superhero cars.

Paper dolls are fun.

San Diego Children's Museum

Giant net full of trash
 I took the boys to the San Diego Children's Museum. Right now the universal theme of the museum is trash. It was pretty cool.

Beautiful Balboa Park

We rode the free trolley through Balboa Park

 Koi pond in the Japanese garden.
 I couldn't believe how big these fish get.
Chair made of clay
We went to Balboa Park's free museum Tuesday. We visited the 2 art museums and the Japanese garden. The park is always packed on free Tuesdays. However it was such a beautiful sunny day you hardly noticed the crowds.

Pac Man Party

How to have a Pac Man party in 2013...
To make the invites I got blank cards at Michael's. I got bright yellow card stock paper to cut out Pac Mans. I used a pencil eraser as the stamp for the dots.
 To make the banner I got yellow and black poster paper at Target, which was .60cents. I downloaded Pac Man font on to my computer and printed out the alphabet. Then I traced the letters cut them out and glued them onto the Black poster board.

The cake was fun to make.
A birthday party isn't a party without a bounce house.

American Wife

Lately I have been hearing a lot of buzz about the book Sisterland and the author Curtis Sittenfeld. It must have seeped into my subconsciousness. When I was at the library they had a different book by the same author displayed. I figured what the heck. It is loosely based on Laura Bush's life and President Bush's administration. I was 261 pages into the book and I was ready to stop reading. This book has little dialogue but a lot of long winded paragraphs. I felt like you were introduced in depth to a lot of characters that you didn't need to give so much time to. I did finish the book. The one saving grace for me was all the mentions of books because the main character was a librarian and an avid reader. I didn't really like it. After reading American Wife I don't plan on reading Sisterland

Pink Lemonade Cookies

 Today we went to a couple of stores to look at party supplies. While we were out F.W. came across Pillsbury Pink Lemonade Cookies. He has asked if we could buy these types of gimmicky cookie mixes before. Today I gave in as long as he made them. I did not buy the frosting the box recommended putting on top of the cookie. As you might imagine theses cookies are sweet! D didn't like them. He took 1 bite and said not for me. I think F.W. ate them because he made them.

Would I buy this cookie mix again? NO Yet it was nice to have F.W. bake something on his own.

What I Wore Sunday

 Sweater:: Old Navy
Dress:: Land's End*
Shoes:: DSW
From far away you can't tell I am wearing clashing patterns.
 I had 2 objectives for this weekend's outfit...1. NO stripes 2. Mix patterns
Lately I've seen a lot of pictures in fashion magazines about mixing patterns. An example of this would be wearing flowers and stripes. The trick is to have a color that pulls the outfit together.  I kind of played it safe with black and white but hey I tried it.
*Land's End makes this same dress every summer just in different fabric patterns.
After my bold 4th of July nails I needed something simple and lady like. I love this color Tea with the Queen by Butter London. Yes, my mug is filled with Barry's tea.

Hey, you can check out what other Lovely Ladies wore to mass this Sunday at fine linen and purple.

Happy Birthday America

 I made a Flag cake for the 4th of July. I used Ina Garten's recipe. I should have used a sheet cake pan but my oven is too small. So the cake was pretty thick almost like a frosted pound cake...but it was yummy. The cream cheese frosting was delicious.
 I used raspberries and strawberries for the stripes of the flag.
 I saw this spatula in Martha Stewart Living magazine & I thought it was SO cool. I'd love to surprise the hubby with this.

4th of July wouldn't be complete without a walk on the Monkey Bridge.
Hope everyone had a fun and safe Independence Day.
